Robert
M. Brooks, President of Evergreen Associates,
has been associated with governmental,
legislative and political issues practically
his entire life. He grew up in
the Seattle area, attended local public
and private schools, and completed undergraduate
and graduate studies in Political Science
and Latin American Studies at the University
of Washington in Seattle. During
that time, Bob also worked regularly
in the Washington State Legislature
in Olympia as a page and bill clerk.
In
1976, he served as campaign coordinator
for the initial Congressional campaign
of Rep. Norm Dicks (D-WA). The campaign
was successful, and Mr. Brooks moved
to Washington, D.C. to serve as Administrative
Assistant and Chief of Staff to Congressman
Dicks. He served in this position for
the first six years of Mr. Dicks’ incumbency,
which continues to this day.
Mr.
Brooks left Congressman Dicks’ office
in 1982 to establish Evergreen Associates,
a government relations and constituent
representation firm in Washington, D.C.
For twenty-five years he has provided
government affairs guidance to numerous
clients in his position at Evergreen
Associates. Bob’s federal liaison
techniques are well-honed, and he has
helped his clients realize countless
successes.

Teresa
Kern Legislative

Teresa
Kern was raised near Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
From an early age she maintained a keen
interest in the Dairy State’s political
pulse. While studying at the University
of Wisconsin-Madison, Teresa majored
in Political Science and Cultural Anthropology
and also earned a Certificate in European
Studies. During this time she also studied
abroad for a summer in Bonn, Germany,
gaining additional perspective in governmental
and international affairs.
Teresa
returned to the Milwaukee area to pursue
her Juris Doctor (JD) at Marquette University,
where she focused on international affairs.
She again had the opportunity to study
in Europe, this time at University College
London. Upon her return to the United
States, she began to concentrate her
interests in the field of advocacy,
and she increased her participation
in groups that reflected this desire.
She served as Secretary and President
of Marquette’s International Law Society
and was an integral member of the Public
Interest Law.
After
her law school graduation in May 2007,
Ms. Kern moved to Washington, DC to
seek an advocacy position. Her search
brought her to Evergreen Associates,
where she currently manages the housing,
healthcare, science and technology portfolios.
Her legal background and legislative
acumen bolster her ability to analyze
the intricacies of various legislation
affecting technological and scientific
developments, and she utilizes these
skills every day as our Legislative
Counsel. Teresa is a member in good
standing of the Wisconsin State Bar
Association.
Amanda
Powers Executive

Amanda
Powers was born in Frankfurt, Germany
to parents proudly serving in the United
States Army, continuing a long-standing
family tradition of military service.
After living briefly in New Jersey,
the Powers family settled in Springfield,
Virginia, just outside of Washington,
D.C.
Ms.
Powers graduated from George Mason University
in Fairfax, Virginia, with a Bachelor
of Arts in Government and International
Politics in June 2007. She earned a
spot on both the National Dean’s List
and the GMU Dean’s List in four consecutive
semesters while maintaining membership
in Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political
Science Honor Society. Her accomplishments
gained Amanda a scholarship to study
in Berlin as part of GMU’s Center of
Global Education.
Amanda
joined the firm in February 2006 as
a student intern and was retained as
a part time associate. In January 2007,
she became our executive associate.
She acts as military liaison, provides
legislative research, and manages special
projects. Amanda also serves as company’s
administrative director.

Zandria
Ivy Legislative

Zandria
Ivy came to Washington, DC in 2005 after
graduating from Millsaps College in
Jackson, Mississippi with a degree in
Psychology and Education. Having grown
up in Tupelo, MS, she was selected as
an Intern for Rep. Roger Wicker (R-MS).
From there she decided to transition
to the non-profit field and worked for
the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
For two years, Zandria served as the
Matching Gifts Coordinator at the National
Trust, serving as the point person for
all correspondence and donations for
members and their respective organizations.
Additionally, she managed a fundraising
program for various preservation focused
organizations.
After
her tenure in the non-profit field she
returned to Capitol Hill to work as
Scheduler and Executive Assistant to
Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA). In Rep. Inslee’s
office she gained hands on experience
while establishing valuable relationships
and strengthening her knowledge of the
legislative process. She joined
the Evergreen Associates team in May
2008.
By
participating in various organizations,
Zandria stays well connected to the
DC and Capitol Hill community. She is
an active member and Co-Chair of Diversity
Outreach for the Women’s Information
Network (WIN), Executive Board Member
and Philanthropy Chair for the Mississippi
Society of Washington, and a frequent
volunteer in the community. She recently
completed the WeLEAD program offered
through American University’s Women
& Politics Institute.
As
Legislative Associate at Evergreen Associates,
Zandria continues to pursue her passion
for government, legislation, and politics.
Her portfolio includes Education, Native
American, and Impact Aid issues.
Legislative
Interns
Gwynne
Zodrow gzodrow@evergreendc.com
Gwynne
Zodrow was raised in the Shakespearian
festival town of Ashland, Oregon. She
moved to Portland in 2001 to enter Portland
State University. In 2006, Gwynne graduated
Summa Cum Laude with a major in Sociology
and Minor in International Studies.
As an undergraduate, Gwynne interned
in Azerbaijan at the Eurasia Foundation,
and worked in Nicaragua conducting surveys
and collecting data. She has also traveled
extensively in Europe and Africa. After
a short stint as a grant writer at PSU,
Gwynne worked as Chief Purser on a small
paddlewheel cruise boat on the Mississippi
River.
In August
2008, Gwynne was selected for the Master’s
in Global Public Health program at George
Washington University in our Nation’s
Capital. She joined Evergreen Associates
as a student intern in January, 2009.
Kristen
Lee klee@evergreendc.com
Kristen
Lee, a rising sophomore at Loyola University
New Orleans, was selected to participate
in The Washington Center Internship
Program and Academic Seminars. Kristen
is pursuing an undergraduate degree
in Political Science and plans to attend
law school. Kristen joins Evergreen
Associates after her recent internship
in the New Orleans office of U.S. Senator
Mary Landrieu (D-LA).
During
her freshman year, Kristen achieved
Dean’s List honors, pledged business
fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi and served
as the Professional Chair of her pledge
class, participated actively in Loyola’s
Society for Civic Engagement, and served
as an intern for Loyola University’s
Student Government Association. In
the fall, she will serve on the student
government as a Senator of the College
of Social Sciences.
Prior
to entering Loyola, Kristen participated
in the University of Southern California
Summer Seminars and studied Argumentation
and Debate and Entrepreneurship as a
Wallis Annenberg Scholar. Kristen also
studied law and advocacy at the University
of California Berkeley through the National
Student Leadership Conference.
Kristen
has competed on both the local and national
level in events such as Lincoln-Douglas
Debate, Student Congress, and Extemporaneous
Speaking. In her senior year at St.
Mary’s
Dominican
High in New Orleans, Kristen was ranked
among the top three Lincoln-Douglas
debaters in the New Orleans League of
the National Catholic Forensic League.
The Lee
family home was destroyed by Hurricane
Katrina, causing her to relocate to
Los Angeles for a year while it was
being rebuilt. She is driven by
Mahatma Gandhi’s call to “be the change
you wish to see in the world.”
